Five races in the span of four days may sound like a bunch of racing for any driver, young or old, but the challenge was met and success was found for Plott Boyz Motorsports drivers, brothers Kyle and Kason Plott. Thirteen-year-old Kyle scored victory in a photo finish during the Pro Challenge South Region’s Natoinal Point event and also took second in the Legends Car feature at Lanier National Speedway Saturday night, while his 11-year-old brother Kason also won his Bandolero Bandits feature at Lanier Saturday, then nearly won Tuesday, July 21st’s Bandolero Bandit event at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway Summer Shootout.
Tops on the list of the accomplishments for the brothers was Kyle’s National Point victory at Lanier Saturday, a win that was long-awaited by the FRS Contracting-backed team.
"We've worked really hard all along, and it feels really good to get the win," said Plott. "Especially in a National Points race, that means a lot.”
The victory came down to Plott and Pro Challenge standout Kyle Benjamin, but nothing was going to keep Plott from the victory, which he earned by just a few inches.
“We had been side by side for a while and I thought I could get him on the outside there at the end, so I went for it and got it.”
Plott then hopped into his Legends Car at both Lanier Saturday and in the Young Lions division feature in the Summer Shootout on Tuesday. Saturday night, Plott started last in the feature and worked his way up into the lead late in the race before getting passed with just a few laps remaining, winding up second. While victory was not in the cards with his Legends Car on Saturday night, his week got even more interesting on Tuesday at the Summer Shootout.
A wet track caused a giant pileup at the start of the Young Lions feature. With nowhere to go, Plott was sent airborne, flipping his FRS Contracting #4 into the air in a lazy fashion. Undeterred, Plott was righted on all four wheels and he continued on to post an 18th-place finish.
“The race was kind of fun, but not fun for the wallet,” added Kyle. “After the flip, I finally found the groove on the last five laps and I was trying to get as many cars as I could. I think I bent the axle a little bit, but I just kept going and made the best of it that I could since we were third in points.”
Kyle’s younger brother Kason also had a crazy week in his #99 Bandolero, as the youngster won his Bandolero Bandit feature at Lanier on Saturday. Then, in Tuesday’s Shootout event, Kason narrowly avoided a first-lap melee and went on to threaten for the win before settling for a close second.
“Winning last Saturday was great; then I came back to Lowe’s this week and finished second, which is really good,” said Kason. “I wish I could have finished first, but I will take the second. I am not sure how I missed that first-lap wreck. I am glad I was able to keep my spot up there, because I don’t think I could have finished in the top five from the back.”
Plott Boyz Racing has had no shortage of action this summer, as both Kyle and Kason are competitively running the Summer Shootout Series at Lowe's Motor Speedway as well as the Thursday Thunder Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway in both Legends Car and in the Bandolero division, respectively. On top of that busy schedule, Kyle is also competing in the Pro Challenge Series at Lanier National Speedway.
Both Plott brothers will be in action on Thursday, July 23rd, in the Thursday Thunder event at AMS.
